Another unofficial gathering of the Blue Knights, called
the Spud Run is history. With the weather that developed in the West I
was surprised we had a rather good turnout. Quite a few opted to drive
on four wheels and that was great, we just enjoy all who can attend to
arrive by what ever means of travel. While we don't do any official
counts, from my observation I would have to say that Edmonton Metro was
probably the most numerous vest I observed. One note on that group was
that the brother of one of that Chapter was traveling with them to Boise
and was hit by a deer. Note I said he was hit. Killed the deer and put
the rider in the hospital with some broken ribs and a broken scapula. To
my knowledge that was the only riding incident, a credit to our Blue
Knight riding skills given the weather some rode through.
Our annual BBQ was attended by over a hundred attendees. Of course the
annual presentation of Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head were made and next years
presentations should be a kick. Next year will be our 20th Spud Run, if
you're interested in attending it will again be held at the Rodeway Inn
in Boise, ID 1-208-376-2700 and the dates are May 26th for early
arrivals and May 27th and 28th as our main gathering dates. The BBQ will
be on Sat May 28th and departure on Sunday May 29th.
Since our West Coast Conference has only one convention a year as
compared to other Blue Knight conferences, the Spud Run is a great way
to interact with your colleagues in the WCC from both the USA and
Canada.
Hope to see you there next year,
Karl Hutchinson Unofficial Spud Run Coordinator/WCC Chairman 2008-2012
